Bridge Terrace

No 5 Bridge Terrace was purchased in 2006 after Adrian and myself had viewed the property whilst Ray was playing hockey. It was a tiny mid-terrace cottage that badly needed renovating, nothing had been done to it for years. It was down a small lane and did not have dedicated parking which we remedied by purchasing No 1 Bridge Terrace when it came onto the market with two parking bays. When we sold each of the two properties they were sold with one parking bay each. No 1 Bridge Terrace required one bedroom to be re-painted before placing back onto the market, which we did and sold for £7k more than we bought it for. Not a bad return for painting one room and lopping a parking bay off.

No 5 Bridge Terrace needed new kitchens and bathroom, plus an upstairs ensuite shower room installed over the stairwell. It also required every wall replastering as there was chunky artex on every wall and ceiling, thank goodness it was a small property. We also discovered a huge wasps nest when we took the kitchen ceiling down, which had to be removed.

Before renovation

A few photos showing the state of the steps and entrance to the house but none showing the very poor state of the cottage before we started the renovation. The place was a disaster and ripe for renewal. Ancient kitchen and bathroom and the fireplaces were out of the ark. One was a back boiler so we quickly replaced that.

During renovation

A fair amount of renovation completed. The hot water tank was replaced and when removed was over half full of limescale! A shower room installed in the Back Bedroom upstairs, Front Bedroom floorboards repaired and window surrounds replaced plus decoration all round. A new boiler, new plumbing all round. Every wall and ceiling replastered. Downstairs bathroom completely changed around and garden chopped back to reveal a little more than greenery.

After renovation

Ray installed a new kitchen plus put in the shower room fitments and renewed the downstairs bathroom to create a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage with all new plumbing, heating and flooring. Good job! All done whilst off work from teaching and recuperating from a prostate cancer operation too.
