Regua - going downstream

Regua - 28 June 2023

This day we started cruising back to Porto, and enroute we re-visited the town of Regua, however we decided to just relax onboard ship and enjoy the weather instead of going on any trips or touring the town. We spent some time reading and doing puzzles sitting in comfy chairs on the Sun Deck and enjoying coffee, freely available whenever required. We slid from a late breakfast into an early lunch, through an afternoon tea into port drinking and onto dinner.

Once everyone returned onboard we proceeded further downstream along the Douro, again passing through the biggest lock in Europe, this time coming into it from upstream and dropping down the 35m depth. We then spent a few hours chatting with friends on the sundeck.

Also included in the day was a demonstration of getting an old cork removed from a vintage port bottle by taking the cork off at the neck and decanting the port. Neat! Video of the demonstration can be seen below.

After dinner a Tuna Band from Porto, consisting of 24 young men from the Medical Technology College, came to entertain us. Video below.

Early night as we have a walking hike round Porto tomorrow and it feels like we have been eating and drinking all day. Fit to pop!

Opening a vintage Port

How to open a bottle of vintage Port, without removing the cork from the neck of the bottle, just removing the whole neck from the bottle.
