Kitchen

In June 2021, as we moved in, the kitchen was not fit to be used. It had been a high quality install back in the day but now it took us a week for both of us to just clean it after it had been cleared. I asked them to take the double oven away with them as well and I bought a small single oven to make-do until the kitchen is renovated. This is actually quite funny as I was going to buy a small counter top oven for about £150 when I spotted this basic oven for £180 and thought I may as well have a full size one for just £30 more. In fact it is a perfectly good oven and does everything we need it to do so it is staying.

Once we had cleaned the kitchen we painted the doors a dark blue, over the original pale blue as a stopgap and to make it look fresh again. I lined every cupboard and drawer with a material from Dunelm, used for kitchen tablecloths etc, which I cut to size and stuck down with double-sided tape. We painted the walls and ceiling white and we also needed to raise the worktop as, for some reason, it was very low and couldn't get anything underneath it. There was also a hole in the wall which Ray repaired and the flooring is very bouncy and will be replaced when the kitchen is stripped out in April 2024. 

We found a fridge for sale to replace the one that was broken in the kitchen when we bought it. I found it on Facebook Marketplace for £50 and the seller said that we had to pick it up and they lived in a really remote area, they were not going to deliver it. They actually live in the exact same postcode as we do and there are only 13 homes in that postcode so that was really lucky!

The kitchen is to be extended, a rooflight put in and sliding glass doors put across the wall facing The Kyles. We will have a new kitchen and peninsula with the kitchen table brought in from where it is in the lounge at the moment to be put in its proper place. Can't wait.
