The Kennels Demolition Day

The demolition of the old property was remarkably quick and easy to do, once the electricity has been disconnected. The correct papers had been put into both the supplier and the Electricity Board and the two of them needed to liaise to get the electricity disconnected. Both were blaming each other for not having the right paperwork, right up until the day before the demolition was due to be undertaken. The builder said we obviously couldn't start the demolition with electricity connected. I phoned both the companies and agreed with both of them that I had supplied the correct papers weeks before. I then politely informed them that filming for the BBC was due to take place the following day and that, because we still had electricity, I would have to explain to them on camera why we couldn't start the demolition. This appeared to unblock the log-jam as an electrician arrived that afternoon to disconnect the house from the electricity supply! Marvellous.

Once the digger started the property was flattened in just a few hours, by lunchtime it was done. As the site was cleared a concrete slab base was discovered that needed a bit extra to get removed but this wasn't too much of an issue either. It took two further days for all the rubble to be placed into skips and carted away and then the site levelled ready for building. Looked really strange to see the site all neat and with no building on it.

The builder was really delighted with the Suffolk sand that was the base layer in the garden. Now onto actually starting getting the foundations in.
